Owning the Moment—this is your time
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.” ~ Confucius
Quick summary:
- Your authority (and confidence) comes from your experience.
- You need a sense of humor and patience; you don’t need to be famous or “the” expert.
- It’s not all about you; follow stand-ups and make it about the audience.
To illustrate the points:
From the film The Great Dictator, watch this masterful demonstration of Chaplin taking his time (not to mention passion, goals, clarity—great speech!)

In a different directions, let’s check out the FUN the following people are having!
It’s almost unbelievable how perfect Elvis was suited for singing—you can see how “natural” he was when performing and how much he enjoyed it (particularly when the song changes around 2:45).
Ok – one more! You’re probably familiar with Psy’s music video for Gangnam Style; here’s a behind-the-scenes “making of” video that shows how much he was LAUGHING throughout the filming. Truly someone who is enjoying what he’s doing—and that energy definitely translates to the camera.
Time to practice!
- On camera: sit down to record a video on your topic, but ONLY start speaking when you are truly ready; just wait until it feels right to begin; edit the beginning off and post it to the group!
- On camera: record something you want to explain and do only 1 take; no re-takes. How does that feel? Could it work? (Look at all the thousands of people who um and ah their way through their videos!) Post this to the group!
You’ve made it, so here’s a quick bonus video!
